John Travers finished in 13th position in the final of the 5,000m at the 13th IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championships in Moncton, Canada yesterday. Although disappointed with his time of 14.55.12 it was a great opportunity to represent his country again and great experience at such a prestigious event.

John had hoped to significantly better his personal best of 14.15.60 set just a few weeks ago in Watford but it wasn't to be. The race was won in a fast time of 13.23.76 by Kenyan David Kiprotich Bett with John Kipkoech (Kenya) 2nd in 13.26.03 and Aziz Lahbabi (Marocco) 3rd in 13.28.92.

Well done and congratulations to John and his team mates, particularly to Ciara Mageean who had a wonderful race today to finish 2nd in the women's 1,500m, blitzing her previous National Junior record by 6 seconds, with a time of 4.09.51. Ethiopia's Tizita Bogale won the race but Ciara with a stunning performance managed to upset the expected African domination when winning the silver medal ahead of Nancy Chepkwemoi of Kenya.
