A beautiful, sunny, summer's day set the scene for the 117th annual Clonliffe 2 mile. The race, reputed to be the oldest road race in the world, was back on it's old course starting at Finglas and finishing at the Gravediggers pub in Glasnevin. A small field of 84 gathered and were set on their way downhill at 4pm for the fast first mile before climbing the uphill section marking the start of the second mile. A difficult race to pace it seemed and perhaps the field went out easy to conserve energy on the uphill and final section.
Three Donore athletes were in action, finishing as follows: Colin Moore 11.00, Tom Hickey 11.10 and Joanna Walsh 13.39. The race was won by Paul Fleming of Rathfarnham in 9.36 from Rory McDonnell (Dunboyne) in 9.37 and Thomas Fitzpatrick (Tallaght) in 9.39. Annette Kealy (Raheny) took the Ladies title in 10.46 with Lorraine Manning (Civil Service) second in 11.07 and Emma Cooper (Clonliffe) third in 11.09.
