On Friday night there was a short race card at the Irish Milers Club meet in Irishtown stadium. Danny Crean lined up in the first race of the evening which was the men's 3000m. It was a strong field and after going out strong ultimately Danny found the pace tough going and was out of the race after 3 laps. The race was won by Colm Rooney of Clonliffe Harriers in an impressive 8.10.82.
Simon Taggart moved up from his regular distance of 400m to run the 600m. After starting out quite conservatively, Simon showed a great turn of pace to move up through the field with 200 to go, and finished fourth in a time of 1.21.91 in a race won by David McCarthy. The third race of the evening was the women's 1000m which was won by Kerry Harty of Newcastle, Co. Down.
On Wednesday night a number of Donore athletes were out to partake in the second graded track meet which got underway shortly before 7pm in Santry with a women's 3000m won by Charlotte Ffrench O'Carroll (DSD). Soon after the Dublin Championship 10,000m was staged with a poor turnout seeing only two make it to the start line. Our own George Brady being one of those and finishing second taking a Dublin silver medal and cash prize for his troubles in a time of 36.24(unofficial). The winner was John Eves of DSD in 32.33(unofficial). In the women's 800m Ali Loughney and Cliodhna Carty took to the track and ran good races finishing a little down the field. Unfortunately the official results are not available so we can't bring you their times. In the men's 800m there was a big turnout and 5 races were staged. Starting with the grade D race, Colin Moore ran his first 800 for many a year winning in an unofficial 2.17. There was two grade B races and Mark Dooley and John Downes both ran but managed to avoid each others race. Mark won his race in 2.04 (unofficial) while John finished in 2.07(unofficial). Philip Cavanagh ran the A race finishing in 1.59(unofficial). Well done to all.
On the previous Saturday RTE hosted the annual BHAA 5 mile race around their grounds. Donore results were as follows: Gavin Keogh ran 27.44, Colin Moore 29.18, Donal Iremonger 29.51, Paul Myles 31.32, Mary McDermott 34.13, Karen McLoughlin 36.37, Tommy Halton 40.24 and Ann Woodlock 41.01.
