Round Up of the Past Week's Activities
Round Up of the Past Week's Activities

Last weekend proved to be a busy time of athletics and awards for Donore. On Friday 16th the club honoured two of our former athlete's Tommy Hayward and Leo Lynch for their commitment and contribution to the club and Irish Athletics.  Both were taken completely by surprise when they arrived with their families to be greeted by the large turnout.  Thanks to Cyril White for his speech and Liam Hennessy President of the AAI for making the presentation to Tommy and Leo.

As some of our athletes were performing on the track at the Leinster schools in Santry and the National leagues in Antrim there was also some Donore athletes taking part in various other events. On Saturday night Adrienne Jordan was our representative in Watford at the British Milers Club performing in the 1,500m B race.  Although running outside her best time for the distance Adrienne ran well to finish 8th in a time of 4.41.79.

Sportsworld staged their annual 5 mile classic race on Sunday and there was plenty of Donore athletes out in force.  The race was won by Vinny Mulvey (Raheny Shamrock AC) with Orla O' Mahony (Raheny Shamrock AC) winning the womens' race. George Brady was first home from Donore in a time of 28.49 closely followed by Colin Moore 28.56.  Other results were as follows: Tom McSweeney 30.02, Joe Rankin 30.42, Florence Curley 31.17, Paul Myles 31.58, Tommy Halton 39.19, Sue Lynch 40.55, Ann Woodlock 41.28, Joan McTernan 42.18, Dave Hudson 42.19, and Mary Murphy 45.04.  In the various categories Florence Curley finished 5th lady. Paul Myles was 2nd over 55, Sue Lynch 3rd lady over 40 and Ann Woodlock 1st lady over 65.  Donore also finished 2nd in the men's masters team.  Well done to all.

Midweek Donore played host to the women's 'Meet & Train' series with a 4 mile race taking part in the Phoenix Park.  Well done to Norma Harnedy who finished 5th in a time of 25.38.  The race was won by Stephanie Bergin 24.39.  The rest of results are not available as yet but well done to all who competed.

Best of luck to all our Juvenile athletes competing this weekend.  Also to George Brady competing in the Edinburgh marathon on Sunday and to some of our athletes who will be running in London on Monday in the Bupa 10,000.
